A Night in Berlin

 After our big win in Berlin, Nish and I stayed in the city with some of our fellow teammates to see the night life and celebrate! We ended up going to two different clubs, doing some dancing and such with the German boys.

Unicorns Win in Berlin!

So we got back from our trip from Berlin yesterday and it was a great weekend! The Unicorns came out with a 34-17 win over a very good Berlin Alder team! If you want to read about the game go here for a recap.

We left Schwäbisch Hall at 6 pm to head north to begin our trip, and a long trip it would be!  Travel time would end up being around 7 hours to and from Berlin including a few pit stops, which for those of you that dont know, is in the north east part of Germany. (Map) I would say its about the equivalent of driving from Mcminnville to Spokane!

The bus was pretty nice and it was nice to have two seats to ourselves during the whole trip!

It was a solid bus ride. Got some sleep in, watched both Seven and 300 for entertainment, while we were riding, and even taught the second Brenner to play some Cribbage. We stopped off in the town of Delitzsch, where we stayed overnight on Friday.

Once we had our walkthrough at 930 am, we hopped on the bus and headed to the big city! It was another hour or two to Berlin unfortunately but we made it finally to the stadium!

The stadium was nice and big, a place where some of the soccer teams in the city play. It is the largest stadium that we will play in this year, at least during the regular season! Before we started warming up we walked down to a place and got some lunch, as we arrived at the stadium a few hours earlier than we needed to.

After a couple hours of waiting for the big game we finally got to hit the field, there were only about 1000 fans I would say at the game because football isn't that big in Berlin, soccer still rules all haha. It was a good environment though!

We started off the game right, by winning the coin toss (I called heads, of course) and we received to begin the game. We had a nice drive that took us down and scored! The defense almost stopped them a few times, but the Alder eventually scored on their first drive too. After a few back and forth drives we put one together and I threw my first TD as a Unicorn in the GFL! It was a simple fade pattern to the big target, Felix Brenner! The Alder kicked a field goal to end the half and it ended at 14-10 Unicorns, with the second half to go. After the break, the defense got a huge stop, and went down and scored again to take control of the game. We didn't let them back in after that. Both teams added scores, the Unicorns added two more, and the Alder one to finish the game with a score of 34-17! Final stats HERE!

Dart Board!

As an Ami House, we are really pumped. Today we are putting up our own, tournament official dart board!

We are very excited because we have developed the itch to play ever since we began watching our good pal Debi compete in his local dart league. We played a game after one of his matches and we have a lot of work to do before we are throwing darts on a grand stage like this one :

And yes, for all those wondering, this is a picture of a crowd attending a Premiere League Dart Match! Its quite a big deal in Europe, especially in the UK I believe. We are getting some darts and borrowing a power drill so we can start practicing as soon as possible! Darts are actually really fun, and can be a good game to play while having a few beers.

The standard game that is played in the pros is 501, where you basically count down to zero with the points you accrue during the game. First one to zero wins! You also have to end by hitting a double, which is the outer most ring, so you have to know some adding and subtracting skills (Damn you 6th grade math!!!) The other games you can play are 301, where you start at a lower number obviously, Cutthroat, and Cricket. Cutthroat involves picking numbers and hitting everyone else's numbers. Cricket is my favorite game! You must hit the bulls eye, 20, 19, 18 ,17, 16,  and 15 each three times. Once you have done so, you win! Pretty simple! You can find the rules to most of these games and more here.

Watching darts on TV is actually pretty fun! The crowds are nuts, its just a big party. My favorite part of the matches, is when a player gets 180, the highest score you can get in three darts. The crowd and the announcer go nuts!

each person in the town has their own preferences on their favorite bakery!

Parade!

After our game on saturday, and a late night of drinking with the boys, the Unicorns participated in a parade! The parade was put on for the whole city, celebrating the opening of a shopping mall in the down town of The Hall. It was crazy how many people showed up for the parade, the streets were packed! It was quite the sight to see!

There was an opportunity for my roomie, Justice Joslin, to have a little fun during the parade. A teammate had mentioned to one of us about a Unicorn costume. Justice heard about this and had to jump on it immediately, of course. I was pleasantly surprised to see how amazing the costume actually was. The pictures will tell the stories best.

We proceeded to do the ray lewis chant every once in a while during our walk through the town to entertain the crowd, here is the real version. Well we just did the end part.
